But Never Did

On the horizon
were various clouds of bluish-gray.
Some were holding back tears,
while others were let go.
It was a point where
endless sky and deep ocean
appeared to meet
but never did.

Save for an imaginary grid of
parallels and meridians,
my whereabouts
was essentially nowhere.
It was a place where rain
meant nothing to a vast ocean.

Maybe upon some future skyline,
where son and father appear
to come together,
unlike these grand blues,
they actually did.

Otherwise, like
the open sky and ocean deep,
they appeared to meet
on the horizon
but never did.
